    "Don't waste your money & time" 2008-04-18
    By Joe Savage (Vancouver, WA)
We purchased a GE Profile Microwave oven on 3/22/2008 from a local store and the microwave oven died within one week of the installation. We were not allowed to return the microwave to the store due to GE's Warranty Policy which mandates that a GE repair technician must determine if the microwave is repairable. If it is repairable, then they will force you to fix it. So after waiting for 1 week for a GE service technician to show up at our home, he determined that the "magnetron," the heart of the microwave, was dead and that he ordered another one and we need to wait for it to arrive and then reschedule a visit for him to repair it. We called GE to get their authority to allow us to return the microwave back to the store to either get our money back or return it for a new unit and they refused as per their policy. They obviously do not care about the consumer who obviously bought a lemon that died within 1 week's time. They make no exceptions. And we will make no exception in the future. We will NEVER buy any GE product again. This is the third GE product that we have purchased that has failed within a year's time. They may talk about quality but they lack integrity and clearly show that they do not care about the consumer. They respect only their own policies and processes. And so we purchased a new GE microwave less than 1 month ago, to replace an Amana that lasted over 5 years, and we are still left with no microwave and at least 2 more weeks and pray that it doesn't fail again.

And if you take the time to Google: GE "microwave oven" customer complaint...you will be flooded with bad reviews!

    "Great product" 2010-02-05
    By M. Sims (Arkansas)
My first Amana Radarange I had for over 20 years(it's still running, but loosing its cooking power). Even though Consumer Report didn't test this product I bought it anyway due to past experience and it came in stainless steel.

It is actually lower wattage than my old one, but it much more powerful. Great space inside, but due to the turntable (that you can't turn off)my rectagular dishes bang around.

I only have one negative: You can't use the kitchen timer feature and use the microwave at the same time like on my old one.

      "Disposable microwave" 2009-03-22
By M. E. Scofield (Milford, Michigan)
My first microwave lasted for twenty-one years and was actually still working (just big and ugly) when I traded it for a Kenmore. The Kenmore looks nice, worked well, and then died yesterday - - giving it a lifespan of two years. Considering the trouble I have had with my new Kenmore washing machine - that's it. I won't be buying Kenmore products again.

      "Nice Microwave" 2008-10-08
      By Mark Mills
This is a Consumer Reports "Best Buy" Microwave

I bought one yesterday and I'm happy with it. It has nice features and is easy to use.

I have no idea how they arrived at the price on Amazon for this item:

I bought mine from Sears yesterday for $99!

      That's right; NOT $199...

"Google "Sears Warranty" before you buy!" 2008-07-22
By Wesley Bailey (Thonotosassa, FL USA)
Before you buy anything Sears or Kenmore, you might want to "google" some of the problems that have recently surfaced on warranty issues.

Even though my warranty said "Sears will repair it free of charge", they insisted that I had to pay a "diagnostic fee" and the labor to replace the defective magnetron.

The Sears employees who earnestly tried to find someone "upstairs" who would honor the warranty were frustrated. Every Sears person that I talked to face to face agreed that the microwave should be repaired without cost; but corporate said no!

This wasn't my first Sears microwave warranty experience. Back in the nineties, a similar situation arose. But, Sears repaired that unit under warranty, no problem (which is why I bought Kenmore again).

      But things have changed!

This isn't the same Sears that it once was. Buyer Beware!

"Good microwave but GE must think it's a disposable." 2009-12-07
By S. Kuchta (Comstock Park, MI USA)
We bought this microwave (JES2251SJ02) in Jan. of '07. It works pretty well. I like the "Inverter" defrost capabilities. Recently (Dec. '09) the oven bulb (part# WB36X10302) burnt out. Not a critical problem but a definite pain in the a**. So far my choices in fixing it are:

      1) Open it up and poke around trying to fix it myself. Carefully! There's reported to be high voltage capacitors in there that can permanently ruin your day and all your days to come. There is apparently no manual available that will tell you how do do this or what to watch out for.

      2) pay for a GE technician to come to the house ($69) and replace the bulb ($12-$20 I think, the GE appointment scheduler doesn't know but I found it online for $11.75) PLUS LABOR.

How much do GE techs charge per hour? GE maint. doesn't know or won't say. How long will it take to complete the job? GE maint. doesn't know or won't say.

Let's estimate that the labor involved takes half an hour to pull the cover off and dismantle the thing enough to get to the bulb and replace it. If the tech charges only $50/hr (probably considerably more) that's a total of $106 (house call + parts + labor). I paid $233 for the thing new. I need to pay almost half the purchase price to fix a burned out bulb 2 yrs later? Time to think about not buying anymore GE appliances.

"Bad design or quality: a dud." 2009-09-05
By Christopher A. von Simson (Reston, VA)
      We got a lemon,

It works, but only for 4 weeks.

Now it shuts off after 1-3 minutes of cooking without warning or beeping or message of any kind: just - off...

Back it goes... Bye bye GE...

      "A Lemon, Don't Buy It !!!" 2009-09-05
      By Susan52 (Austin, TX)
I purchased this microwave in December 2006. On September 9, 2009 it totally went out. My problem seems to be the same as others are describing in these reviews - a problem with the inverter technology or "inverter board." It has poor reliability and a high failure rate. The inverter technology is great while it lasts, but the oven goes out after a couple of years. Since it is past the 1-year warranty, it is my tough luck. I called GE Customer Service to get them to recommend an authorized repair facility in my town. The representative was unbelievably rude - claiming that my only option was for them to send one of their technicians to my house. That was not an acceptable solution because: 1) It was way too expensive for a home visit, and 2) I could not take a day off work (and lose a day's pay) to be there. It would be less expensive to just purchase another microwave.

Needless to say, after this experience, I will never purchase another GE microwave - or any other GE product based on how rude the customer service representative was to me. I thought GE was supposed to be a quality brand? My previous (much less expensive) microwave lasted 15 years - and it wasn't even supposed to be a quality brand (a Sharp). I strongly advise against purchasing this microwave. When you pay that much for an appliance, it should last more than two years. It seems GE is engaging in a very unethical business practice. So many people are experiencing the same problem I did. GE has to know these ovens go out after a couple of years. Then they try to suck you into giving them more money to repair or replace them - and they try to manipulate you into those expensive home service calls. I think we should all boycott GE.

"died in just 3 months" 2009-08-23
      By R. Burke (twinsburg ohio)
I will never buy anything again without reading Amazon's review. Wish I had READ Walter's review before I lugged this monster home. At least the turn table goes around when it doesn't heat the food. And we do get excitment waiting to see if it is going to shut down or cook the food. Serious note, the top of the microwave gets extremely warm. That can't be a good sign.

"stopped working after 45 days of very light use." 2009-02-08
      By Robert J. Osborne
Recently remodeled my kitchen and picked this unit based mostly on looks. I use a microwave mostly for warming up a cup of coffee or the occasional pizza slice (very light use). After owning it for just 45 days, it started smoking and then just cut off it's power while reheating some pasta. Fortunately I was able to return this piece of junk and get a refund. After doing a quick search on the web, I've heard of this exact same problem happening to other unhappy GE customers. One person claimed it started a fire. I have don't know if this is possible, but my GE microwave produced quite a bit of smoke before it turned itself off.
